About Us
Eclipse Broadheads are
manufactured by Traditional Pursuit, Inc. Boise, ID USA . The
company is owned and operated by Blake O. Fischer. "Don't kid
yourself, we are not a big company," says Blake, "I build these
in my shop one at a time. Each one is handled and inspected no less
than ten times. There is a little piece of me in every broadhead."
Eclipse Broadheads started as most things do, a couple of guys
sitting around drinking a couple of beers and thinking "we can do
that". The design is not a new idea. It is based on a broadhead
originally produced in Canada called the Journeyman. My friend Brad
Hayes and I both shot these broadheads and when they suddenly went
off the market we started hording our personal supply. After
lamenting the fact that they were no longer available, we decided to
bring a great broadhead back and Eclipse was born.
We made it official in April of 1998 and became incorporated. We
soon discovered that talking about building a broadhead was much
easier than actually building one. We encountered a lot of hurdles
getting started. For instance, we initially had dies built by a
local toolmaker but had to scrap them because they wouldn't produce
parts up to our standards. Scrapping those dies was a difficult
decision to make. "Dies aren't exactly cheap, but we knew we would
never be able to look someone in the eye and tell them "this is the
best broadhead built" and that was our goal. So more dies were
built. This time we were fortunate enough to be introduced to Theo
Riechart, one of the two original owners of Journeyman. Theo, a
toolmaker by trade, designed and built the Journeyman dies. Needless
to say, we were delighted. Journeyman had developed a reputation for
having extremely round, precise ferrules and for being very tough.
We were now able to take advantage of everything Theo learned from
the first go around and make the 2nd generation tooling even better.
Now we had the building blocks, but we still had to figure out the
welding, brazing, heat-treating, coating, sharpening, Teflon
coating, and packing processes. We fought similar battles with each
and every process. Then in 2007, after almost ten years, I bought
Brad's half of the company from him, we managed to sever our ties in
business and remain friends. It has been one helluva ride, and if
you are interested in the whole story, I'll give you the whole scoop
over a beer sometime.
I am a lifetime bowhunter and archer and remain active in the sport
year round. I live with my wife, Brandie, and my daughter, Marlie
who allow me plenty of time pursuing my passion. I am currently the
President of the Idaho Traditional Bowhunters
www.idahotraditionalbowhunters.com . I also have a real 8-5 job
in the irrigation business with my father and grandfather, who also
allow me a little time off to build broadheads and go hunting. I am
fortunate to live in Idaho where I are surrounded by some of the
most beautiful and awesome country which is inhabited by mule deer,
whitetail deer, elk, moose, antelope, sheep, goat, bear, turkey,
caribou and a number of other game and non-game species.
Additionally, I travel to many different locations to chase a
variety of different species. I feel this is what makes me different
from many other broadhead manufacturers. I approached this business
as a bowhunter. I may not have known how to make a broadhead, but I
knew how a broadhead should perform. I have used a variety of
broadheads in various situations. Because of my experiences I have
some pretty strong opinions on what qualities a broadhead must
posses. I feel that the Eclipse Broadhead is the best-made, most
effective broadhead on the market today.
